HOMEWORK POLICY

Rationale

Homework is an essential part of the learning process. It solidifies content taught in class and teaches students the ability to work independently and manage their time effectively. However, it is essential to ensure that students are not overloaded.

Grades 0-2

Students in Grades 0-3 should receive homework as follows:

  • All students will receive 30 minutes of homework per week in either English, Maths, IPC, Bulgarian or Science. This homework will be due one week after the set date, allowing for completion during the weekend if desired.
  • Subjects will be set on a rota basis directed by the Head of School and Heads of Stages.

Grades 3-6

Students in Grades 3-6 will receive homework as follows:

  • All students will receive 30 minutes of homework per week in two of the following subjects: English, Maths, Bulgarian or Science. This homework will be due one week after the set date, allowing for completion during the weekend if desired.
  • Subjects will be set on a rota basis directed by the Head of Primary/Secondary and Heads of Stages.

Grade 7

Students in Grade 7 will receive homework as follows:

  • All students will receive 30 minutes of homework per week in three of the following subjects: English, Maths, Bulgarian or Science. This homework will be due one week after the set date, allowing for completion during the weekend if desired.
  • Subjects will be set on a rota basis directed by the Head of Secondary

Grade 8 & 9

Students in Grades 8 & 9 will receive homework as follows:

  • All students will receive 30 minutes of homework per week in each of the following subjects: English, Maths, Bulgarian or Science. This homework will be due one week after the set date, allowing for completion during the weekend if desired.

Monitoring

Homework for all students should be recorded in the student’s student planner with clear instructions and due date. Parents are strongly encouraged to monitor homework set and support the school in ensuring homework is completed on time. Failure to complete homework is considered a disciplinary offence in line with the school’s behaviour policy.

Electronic resources

St. George International School & Preschool understands that students may wish to carry out additional study outside of school. All students receive a MobyMax account and access to the EBSCO online library, which will allow them to complete additional studies if desired.
